Shane Sabraski celebrates his eighth Late Model victory.
What won the race: Late Model rookie Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minn., dominated the first of the Twin Ports Twin 25s on Friday at Gondik Law Speedway for a $2,500 victory, the first of his career on the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series. Sabraski took the checkers 0.903 of a second ahead of six-time series champion John Kaanta, who was looking for his first series victory since 2019.
Quotable: "It's super exciting because, I don't know how to say it, but I roll into the pits and you see all these Late Model guys here — and I mean, I am (one) too — but it's like, I don't know, I just don't have a lot of expectations because I feel like I got a lot of work to do to keep up with those guys," Sabraski said. "But here we're running up front, so it's pretty cool."
Key notes: Sabraski notched his 903rd multidivision feature victory. ... He's got eight Late Model feature victories, including last weekend's $11,111 Tom Waseleski Memorial at Hibbing (Minn.) Raceway. ... He's a multidivision WISSOTA champion and tackled the Late Model division for the first time in 2024. ... A red flag flew just after Sabraski took the checkers when Don Shaw's car rolled; he wasn't injured and was awarded the fourth finishing position (he was fifth the previous lap). ... Johnny Broking was tagged for causing the caution, costing him a top-five run. .... Three other cautions slowed the action, including two failed starts for debris and for Tyler Peterson, who slapped the turn-one wall. ... Jeff Provinzino and Kevin Burdick apparently tangled in turn three for a lap-11 caution. ... The second Twin Port 25 follows (find another RaceWire) with an 11-car inversion.
On the move: Chad Mahder of Bloomer, Wis., started 12th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Sabraski's Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Vic Hill Racing Engine and sponsored by West Metro Buick-GMC, QA1 Racing Shocks, Speedwerx Custom Exhaust and Joe Signs.
