What won the race: Storming around the outside of mid-race leader Kyle Berck, 11th-starting Justin Zeitner of Malvern, Iowa, gained command on lap 16 and controlled the remainder of Friday's 30-lap Malvern Bank West Series feature on the undercard of the Silver Dollar Nationals at Huset's Speedway. Zeitner earned $5,053, his second straight series victory and his second consecutive Malvern West triumph at Huset's after topping last year's $5,053 finale.
Key notes: Zeitner crossed the finish line 1.946 seconds ahead of Andrew Kosiski, who overtook Berck for second place on a lap-26 restart. ... Berck settled for third after leading twice for five laps (1-3, 14-15). ... Sixth-starting Bill Leighton Jr. charged forward to lead laps 4-13 before Lee Grosz spun and collected him to draw the race's fourth caution flag. With Leighton committed to the high line, he slid into Grosz's stalled car with his right side; Leighton was forced to pit for repairs but rebounded to finish fourth. … Dylan Sillman took advantage of the lap-26 restart to climb as high as fourth before Leighton relegated him to fifth in the closing laps. … Third-starting Chad Holladay spun on the opening lap when polesitter Gabe Umbarger got sideways in front of him. He recovered to finish eighth while Umbarger placed 10th. … The sixth and final caution flew on lap 26 when fourth-running Tad Pospisil spun in turn two, collecting J.C. Wyman and Zach Zeitner. Pospisil was unable to continue. … The feature lasted 24 minutes with 16 drivers completing the distance. ... The Malvern Bank West Series will contest another $5,053-to-win feature in Saturday's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Silver Dollar Nationals finale.
On the move: Charlie McKenna of Ames, Iowa, started 17th and finished sixth.
