Dennis Erb Jr. heads for victory lane in Quincy, Ill.
What won the race: Going against form with an outside pass for the lead, fourth-starting Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., overtook Rickey Frankel on the 11th lap Sunday at Adams County Speedway and raced to a $5,000 MARS Championship Series victory. Erb took the checkers ahead of Ryan Unzicker with Jason Feger in third at the quarter-mile oval.
Quotable: "I mean, we had a good car. I knew we was gonna have to get out front ... the racetrack was starting to take a little rubber there," Erb said. "And once we get out front, we just set our own pace."
Key notes: Dennis Erb Jr., who typically favors the low groove but used the high groove for his winning pass, notched his seventh career MARS victory. ... Erb's previous MARS triumph came March 3, 2018, at Clarksville (Tenn.) Speedway. ... Erb, a World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series regular, has three 2024 victories overall. ... Rickey Frankel, the hometown driver who led the first 10 laps, was taken out of contention just as Erb took the lead exiting turn four on the 11th lap. Darin Weisinger's slower car was headed for the infield across from the flagstand just in front of Frankel, who got hung up before wriggling free in seventh place. He ended up 11th. ... Four cautions slowed the action, three during a stretch between laps 27-33. ... (Mark Voigt had a flat tire; Justin Reed spun in turn four; Gordy Gundaker slowed). ... Clay Stuckey drew to first yellow when he stopped in turn three on lap 14 and was pushed to the pits.
On the move: Allen Weisser of Peoria, Ill., started 11th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by J.R. McBride Leasing, McBride Mack, VolMac Truck Sales and Service, Ideal Ready Mix, Keyser Manufacturing, Fox Racing Shox, Collins Signs, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels and Performance Rod & Custom.
Points chase: After Adams County: 1. Jason Feger (443); 2. Ryan Unzicker (391); 3. Allen Weisser (381); 4. Bob Gardner (369); 5. Justin Duty (347).
