Tyler Erb on his way to a flag-to-flag victory in Monday's XRSS Super Series stop at Davenport Speedway.
What won the race: Surviving late-race challenges from Max Blair and Hudson O’Neal, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, completed a flag-to-flag victory in Monday’s 40-lap opener of the Davenport Deal for the XR Super Series at Davenport Speedway. The 27-year-old held off O’Neal, who pitted to change a cut left-rear tire during an opening-lap caution period, by 0.938 of a second for a $15,000 prize and his first XRSS victory.
Quotable: "The lane moved in (turns) three and four and I could tell that was gonna happen really quick, but one and two, if you really wanted to get some on that top, you could,” Erb said. “And yeah, I’d have never bet in a million years that Max Blair got a run on the top like that, but I hate that for him.”
Key notes: Erb won his 15th overall 2024 race. He won June 18's DIRTcar Summer Nationals event at Davenport. … Max Blair looked underneath Erb several times in turn two from laps 29-35, but the Pennsylvanian’s outside bid on the five-to-go restart saw him slide over the turn-two banking and tumble to a ninth-place finish. He pulled alongside Erb during the cool-down lap to express displeasure with how Erb slid up the track on the restart. … Hudson O’Neal shot into second with Blair’s demise and threatened Erb but settled for a runner-up finish. … Bobby Pierce, who transferred from the rear of a consy after retiring from his heat while second, pitted to change a tire after drawing a caution flag on lap 29 but rallied to third. … Tim McCreadie, who also transferred through a consy after relinquishing second in his heat because of mechanical woes, rebounded from a feature pit stop to fix body damage on the opening circuit to salvage sixth. ... A multicar tangle on the feature's first lap in turns one and two left Daulton Wilson, Matt Cosner, Dennis Erb Jr. and Trey Mills stopped with damage and involved several other cars, including McCreadie and O’Neal. … Third-starter Devin Moran pitted during the opening-lap caution period and came back to finish 10th. … Third-running Cade Dillard slid off the track on lap 18, triggering the race’s second of four caution flags. … Open-wheel star Logan Seavey contested second place on a lap-18 restart but had faded to eighth when he spun on lap 35 for the final caution. … Mike Marlar ran second for much of the race’s first half but began a downfall to his 15th-place finish after sliding through the cushion off turn two on lap 22. … A brief shower hit the track at 7 p.m. delayed the program a half-hour. ... The Davenport Deal includes a $15,000-to-win XRSS event Tuesday and a $20,000-to-win modified event Wednesday.
On the move: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., started 22nd and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
