What won the race: Capitalizing on race-long leader Bill Leighton Jr.'s miscue on lap 20, fifth-starting Tad Pospisil of Norfolk, Neb., swept past exiting turn four and led the rest of Thursday's 25-lap Malvern Bank West Series event for a $3,000 payday. Pospisil grabbed his second series victory of the season and 35th of his career in topping Leighton, who got too high and slapped the turn-four wall working traffic with six laps remaining.
Quotable: "We just had the car dialed in pretty good. It felt pretty good there. Bill just made a mistake there with that lapped car and we capitalized on it and got the dub," Pospisil said, adding over the last four laps, "we got a good restart and I just drove the hell out of it up on the cushion because I wasn't gonna give it up."
Key notes: Pospisil's victory was his first on the Malvern West circuit since May 17 at Central Missouri Speedway. ... Runner-up Bill Leighton Jr., who led 19 laps, fell shy of a bid at his third victory in four tour races. ... Three cautions slowed the action, the first on the 10th lap when Darrel DeFrance went around at the end of the backstretch (Don Geist, making his series debut, pulled up lame during the caution period). ... Another caution appeared on the 11th lap for a spin by Chris Spieker at the same time Cory Dumpert and Jake Neal tangled in turn two. ... The last slowdown appeared on lap 22 for Charlie McKenna's turn-two spin, which required a brief red flag for the longer-than-expected cleanup. ... Rookie Anthony Roth made a 17th-to-11th run at his hometown track in his tour debut. ... Chad Holladay failed to cash in on the $1,500 bonus as the Skyline Materials Lucky Sixth-Place Starter. ... Kyle Berck, the only driver with victories in every series season, is still looking for his first of 2024; nine series races remain. ... U.S. 30 Speedway hosted the tour for the first time in five seasons. ... Seventeen of 22 starters completed 25 laps.
On the move: Corey Zeitner of Bellevue, Neb., started eighth and finished fourth.
