Nick Anvelink (15) goes around Brad Mueller (89) for the winning pass at Plymouth Dirt Track.
What won the race: Powering around mid-race leader Brad Mueller on a lap-28 restart, fourth-starting Nick Anvelink of Bonduel, Wis., won Friday's $1,250 Wabam 30 at Plymouth Dirt Track. Anvelink notched his second Wabam Dirt Kings Tour victory of the season, his first since April 20 at Beaver Dam (Wis.) Raceway, and the 28th of his career, further extending his all-time series lead.
Quotable: “Brad (Mueller) had a pretty good car there towards the middle of the race, he was kinda driving away from me a little bit,” Anvelink said. “I was probably getting a little excited and spinning my tires a lot, I couldn’t find a decent groove there after one of them restarts near the end. My car kinda went away and I just kept working my tires and got ‘er back going. I think the bottom (line) just slowed down enough where I could make a play on the top over here.”
Key notes: Pole-starting Brad Mueller led laps 14-27 before giving way to Anvelink on the late-race restart and settling for second, 0.871 of a second back at the line. ... Ironically, Anvelink passed Mueller with four laps left to win Aug. 10's $5,000 unsanctioned event at Plymouth. ... Taylor Scheffler spun from third on the initial lap-28 restart attempt, bringing out the race's fifth and final caution before pulling off with a flat left-rear and retiring. ... Eighth-starting Mitch McGrath inherited third on the ensuing restart and completed the podium finishers. ... Second-starting Troy Springborn led the opening 13 laps before being overtaken by Mueller and eventually slipping to fourth. ... Justin Schmidt's tough night came to an ended when he slowed for a lap-eight yellow, the first of the night. ... Justin Ritchie spun in turn four on the 12th lap to cause the second stoppage. ... The 30-lapper lasted 21 minutes, with 16 starters running at the checkers.
On the move: Jayden Schmidt of Seymour, Wis., started 20th and finished eighth.
