Devin Gilpin gets up to speed before his victory at Paragon.
What won the race: Leading all 40 laps from the pole, Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind., drove to his first career Ultimate Heart of America Series victory on Saturday night, earning $5,000 at Paragon Speedway. Gilpin took the checkers 2.128 seconds ahead of fourth-starting Rodney Melvin to grab his third touring series triumph of the season and his first away from Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway.
Quotable: “That was hectic there man. That race took forever and then I was nervous (my team) would tell me they was coming up top,” Gilpin said. “(I’d) move my line, they’d go to the bottom, back to top. It was just a long 40 laps, it took forever too. I just can’t these guys enough, first and foremost my grandpa, man, he just gives me everything.”
Key notes: Tenth-starting Derek Groomer rounded out the podium finishers. ... Points leader Dustin Linville ran as high as second a couple of times before fading in the closing laps and finishing fifth. ... Fourth-running Jordan Wever retired on lap seven. ... The feature lasted 44 minutes, with 10 drivers completing the distance. ... The series announced Sunday the Sept. 14 race at Mountain Motor Speedway in Isom, Ky., was cancelled by the track.
On the move: Dustin Shoulders of Coatesville, Ind., started 17th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Gilpin’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from South Central Roofing, Jason Clarkson Logging, IndSolTech Environmental Solutions, Tom Pickets Music Center, Color Me Happy Salon & Spa, Browns Oil Service, Blondie’s Pizzeria, TFS Performance, Beyea Custom Headers, Dasco Racing Supply, Wheelman by Dasco, Simco, Penske Racing Shocks and KBC Graphix.
