Camaron Marlar waves the checkers at Lake Cumberland.
What won the race: Pole-starting Camaron Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., led all 50 laps Saturday at Lake Cumberland Speedway for a career-high $15,000 victory, his first on the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series. Marlar took the checkers 1.288 seconds ahead of Ashton Winger to capture his second feature victory of the season at Lake Cumberland after earning $10,053 there on April 20 in Schaeffer's Spring Nationals action.
Quotable: “This race in particular, it’s really bothered me, every year I come to this race and just run terrible,” Marlar said. “Then we had ignition problems, it wouldn’t run in qualifying, halfway ran in the heat race, I’m like ‘man, here it goes again, another Harold Hardgrove down the drain,’ but we got it fixed and everything ran flawless.”
Key notes: Marlar notched his fifth overall victory of the season and first since July 20 at Richmond (Ky.) Raceway on the Ultimate Heart of America circuit. ... He boosts his total race winnings to more than $40,000 on the season. ... Second-starting Tanner English pursued Marlar for the opening 10 laps before giving way to Winger and fading to fourth. ... Zack Mitchell finished third, his best result since joining Coltman Farms Racing. ... Points leader Brandon Overton finished fifth. ... Jason Jameson, winner of Friday's $5,000 opener, finished ninth. ... All but three starters completed 50 laps in the 24-minute feature. ... The event honored Harold Hardgrove, a former Kentucky racer and LCS track promoter who died Aug. 28, 2009, at the age of 54. Hardgrove's son, Brandon, now owns and operates the facility. ... Derrick Meadors scratched.
On the move: Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., started 13th and finished sixth.
Winner's sponsors: Marlar’s Rick Curl-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Curl Properties, Marlar Auto Mart, Mac Metal Sales & Trusses, Wayne Bowen, Platinum Designs, XS Power and Bilstein Shocks.
