Tim McCreadie celebrates his first World of Outlaws win in four years.
What won the race: Clearing pole-starting Ashton Winger with a turn-three slide job on the opening lap, second-starting Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., led all 35 circuits to score a $12,000 win in Thursday's Great Lake Showdown at Raceway 7. McCreadie beat Winger to the line by 2.618 seconds in the non-stop feature for his 34th career World of Outlaws Real American Late Model Series victory and his first since April 23, 2021, at Richmond (Ky.) Raceway.
Quotable: “It’s hard to deal with," a choked up McCreadie said of winning on the one-year anniversary of his father Bob's death. “When you got great people around you, like Boom (Briggs), their whole family, my mom, my brother, sister, everybody ... it’s been a tough day. (I’ve) been holding it in all day, trying not to think about (losing his father). It’s been a rough go for us, but we’ll keep plugging along, that’s all we can do.”
Key notes: McCreadie earned his first victory of any kind since last Aug. 17's Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark., worth $50,000 aboard Mark Richards's Rocket house car. ... McCreadie's triumph came exactly one year after his father, legendary big-block modified driver "Barefoot" Bob McCreadie, died at age 73. ... Ashton Winger trailed McCreadie the entire distance but never truly challenged for the lead. ... Brian Shirley held off a late-race charge from Drake Troutman to finish third. ... The sixth-starting Troutman, who overcame a heat race spin to transfer, took fourth from Bobby Pierce on the 21st lap and finished there. ... Pierce settled for fifth. ... Tristan Chamberlain overcame a loose oil line in hot laps and rounded out the top-10 finishers. ... The 35-lap feature was completed without incident and lasted 12 minutes, with 15 starters completing the distance. ... Dave Hess Jr. scratched.
On the move: Cody Overton of Evans, Ga., started 13th and finished seventh.
