Jonathan Davenport celebrates his $10,000 victory at Eagle Raceway.
What won the race: Racing off the outside pole and maintaining firm control from start-to-finish, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., emerged victorious in Friday's 40-lap Malvern Bank High Bank Heist feature at Eagle Raceway. The 41-year-old superstar handled two late-race cautions with aplomb to secure the $10,000 triumph on the second night of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned weekend.
Quotable: "I’m kind of glad that one caution came out there. It kind of gave me a breather. That’s about all an old man can do,” Davenport said after largely running the fast cushion to victory. “The bottom didn’t come in, I don’t think, like it did last night there for a while. I never did really go down there but just a couple times. I was kind of married myself to the top there and tried to hang on.”
Key notes: Coming off a runner-up finish in Thursday’s opener, Davenport registered his second win in the last three Lucas Oil Series races and his fourth of the season. It was his 81st career full-field triumph on the national tour, tying him for second all-time with Jimmy Owens. … Hudson O’Neal reached second on lap 37 and a caution flag moments later gave him a restart opportunity for the top prize, but he finished 1.096 seconds behind Davenport in second place. … Kyle Bronson placed third after running second for laps 14-36. … Points leader Ricky Thornton Jr. was in a tight battle for second when he scraped the homestretch wall chasing Bronson and spun in turn one. He limped to the pit area and retired due to a broken steering rack for a 22nd-place finish. ... Thornton's incident brought out the feature's first caution. ... Polesitter Tad Pospisil ran second for most of the race's first 13 laps and was still fifth as late as lap 29, but on lap 37 he stopped in turn four to trigger the second and final caution flag. He finished 16th. ... The High Bank Heist weekend concludes Saturday with a complete show topped by a 75-lap feature paying $50,000-to-win.
On the move: Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., started 13th and finished second.
Winner's sponsors: Davenport’s Lance Landers Motorsports Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Dynagro Seed, Mark Martin Automotive, Mega Plumbing & HVAC, Bobcat of Batesville, Bert Transmissions by Budda, Lucas Oil, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein Shocks and Midwest Sheet Metal.
