Dillon Tidmore takes the checkers at North Alabama.
What won the race: Overtaking polesitter and fellow front-row starter Christian Hanger on the 12th lap, Dillon Tidmore of Gadsden, Ala., led the rest of Saturday's 50-lap Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series feature at North Alabama Speedway. Tidmore took the checkers 0.419 of a second ahead of 12th-starting Brayden Skinner for a $5,000 payday.
Quotable: "I knew we was good from the jump. We just had to be patient and finally got the lead there," Tidmore said, adding that the victory "means a ton. We couldn't keep going up and down the road unless we got a couple of these a year."
Key notes: Tidmore notched his second SAS victory of the season; he won April 12 at Winder-Barrow Speedway in Winder, Ga. ... He has four career series victories. ... Christian Hanger led the first 11 laps from the pole and kept pace with Tidmore before retiring under a lap-31 caution. ... Former series champ Billy Franklin, who won Friday's opener at West Alabama Speedway in Winfield, finished third and registered his fifth top-five finish in seven series starts this season. ... Franklinmade inadvertant contact while battling Tim Busha for second on the 48th lap, spinning Busha and setting up a two-lap dash to the finish. ... Brayden Skinner slipped by Franklin for second on the final restart. ... The feature lasted just shy of 50 minutes after being slowed by seven incidents, the most serious with double rollover wreck on a lap-five restart, involving former series champ Ronnie Johnson and Braden Mitchell. Seth McCormack, who spun to trigger the previous slowdown, was also collected. All drivers were OK. ... Mitchell continued for 10 more laps before also calling it a night. ... Brad Skinner pressured Tidmore for the lead on lap 17 until Tidmore made contact with Dusty Quillen while trying to lap him, sending Quillen spinning. Skinner couldn't avoid Quillen's spinning car and the resulting contact ended their race. ... Scott Cook and Daniel Miller made contact while battling for fifth on a lap-30 restart, sending both spinning. Miller continued to finish eighth, while Cook retired on lap 39. ... Walker Greer scratched.
