Ryan Montgomery celebrates his first ULMS victory in nearly two years.
What won the race: Taking control when race-long leader Mason Zeigler pitted with a flat tire on lap 34, third-starting Ryan Montgomery of Fairmont, W.Va., led the rest of Saturday's 38th annual Earl Hill Memorial Topless 50 at Tyler County Speedway. Montgomery beat Logan Zarin to the checkers for the $5,080 payday and his second career Jay's Automotive United Late Model Series victory, his first since July 28, 2023, at Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y.
Key notes: The victory was Montgomery's first of any kind since June 1, 2024, a Marion Center (Pa.) Raceway local show. ... Polesitter Mason Zeigler, winner of May 10's $7,500 opener at Latrobe (Pa.) Speedway, led the first 33 laps before the late-race flat; he could only recover to eighth. ... Series rookie Brock Pinkerous improved three positions and completed the podium finishers. ... Reigning ULMS champ Michael Lake climbed four spots and rounded out the top five. ... Hometown racer Brandon Weigle started second before fading to seventh. ... Saturday's show was a combination of two big events held annually at Tyler County; May 3's Topless 50 was rain-postponed and combined with the Earl Hill Memorial, an event honoring Hill, arguably the most successful Dirt Late Model racer in the history of Tyler County Speedway. He amassed more than 300 feature victories en route to earning the first track championship at Tyler County and likely holds all track records from his era. ... The 50-lapper was slowed by five cautions and lasted 24 minutes, with 13 starters running at the finish. ... Brian Baumberger scratched.
On the move: Runner-up finisher Logan Zarin of Moon Township, Pa., started eighth.
