Josh Rice celebrates his second Iron-Man Series victory of the season.
What won the race: Second-starting Josh Rice of Verona, Ky., launched from the outside pole and held off Rusty Schlenk in the closing laps, earning a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's 30-lap Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series main event at Butler Motor Speedway. Rice's second Iron-Man victory of the season is the 18th of his career, further extending his lead on the tour's all-time win list.
Key notes: Rice now has five overall victories this season, including three consecutive weekends with a win, dating back to May 10's $5,000 Iron-Man stop at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio. ... Rusty Schlenk advanced from fourth to second in a manner of four laps, then trailed Rice the remaining 24 circuits. ... Tyler Erb improved five positions and placed fourth. ... Polesitter Chad Finley slipped from second-to-fifth on a lap-seven restart before retiring from eighth on the 15th lap. ... The feature was slowed by three yellow flags and lasted 21 minutes, with 15 starters completing 30 laps.
