What won the race: World of Outlaws regular Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., overcame a rash of restarts to capture a flag-to-flag victory in Sunday's 50-lap fourth annual Andy Kania Memorial at Eriez Speedway. Blair beat Logan Zarin to the line by 1.712 seconds for the $7,676 payday and his fourth consecutive Kania Memorial triumph in unsanctioned Super Late Model competition.
Key notes: Blair negotiated Eriez's rough surface for his seventh overall win of the season, but his first special event triumph. ... It's his third Eriez victory after a sweep of May 11 Super and RUSH Crate Late Model events. ... Eleventh-starting Logan Zarin took second from Chub Frank on the 48th lap and recorded his second runner-up finish in as many nights. Sixth-starting Frank settled for third. ... Tenth-starting Jared Miley took fourth from rookie Brock Pinkerous on lap 45, relegating Pinkerous to fifth. ... The race was marred by five incidents, the largest necessitating a 10-minute red flag for Mike Knight's lap-40 flip. Knight was sixth before the late-race incident; he was credited with 10th. ... Colton Flinner slowed from second with a flat tire on the ensuing restart; he opted not to change it and placed ninth. ... Second-running Dave Hess Jr. lost an engine on lap 27. ... Fourth-running Tim McCreadie broke a shock at the race's halfway mark. ... The event honored Andy Kania, a longtime racer and regular at Eriez Speedway who retired to become crew chief for his son, Steve; Andy died on Oct. 21, 2021, after a brief illness. ... The 50-lapper lasted 36 minutes, with seven starters completing the distance. ... Alex Ferree (right-front ball joint) and Kyle Bedell (flat rear tire) both had trouble in pace laps and failed to take the green flag. ... Darrell Bossard, Nicholas Eck and Doug Eck were among notable non-qualifiers.
On the move: Josh Ferry of Titusville, Pa., started 21st and finished sixth.
