Tyler Erb picked up $7,500 for his victory in Crystal, Mich.
What won the race: Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, launched from the outside front-row and never looked back, leading all 35 laps in winning Sunday's $7,500 Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series feature at Crystal Motor Speedway. Terbo beat Colten Burdette to the line by 1.251 seconds for his third overall victory of the season and his second career Iron-Man triumph, his first since last July 7 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.
Quotable: “I really enjoy Crystal, this isn’t the same racetrack we had last (July) by any means, but just something about the shape of it and the way you gotta run it. I think I got every bit of qualifying I could get without hurting myself, that’s the key, it set us up to start up front and not have to race our way through so hard,” Erb continued. “Thank everybody for giving us a place to race, I don’t want to go to Missouri on Memorial Day weekend, so this is a close option.”
Key notes: Erb earned his second major event victory in the last 11 months at Crystal after winning last July's $10,000 DIRTcar Summer Nationals debut. ... Third-starting Colten Burdette reclaimed the runner-up spot from Devin Shiels on a lap-six restart and trailed Erb the rest of the way, but never truly threatened. ... The pole-starting Shiels, of Britton, Mich., faded to fourth after Dona Marcoullier slipped by him on the 33rd lap. ... Rusty Schlenk finished fifth after passing Chad Finley on a lap-17 restart. Finley held fourth for the first 16 laps before fading to sixth. ... Rod Conley spun on the 17th lap, drawing the race's third caution. He soldiered to a 15th-place result. ... Seth Daniels overcame a lap-six flat that drew the second stoppage. Daniels recovered as high as 13th before pulling off on lap 27. ... Jeff Babcock slowed from 14th on a lap-20 restart attempt, triggering the fifth and final slowdown. He did not continue. ... Austin Lay and Ryan Lanphierd tangled and brought out the first yellow flag on the second lap. Lay retired, while Lanphierd continued until leaving the track surface on lap 20. ... The main event lasted 27 minutes, with 15 starters completing 35 laps. ... Josh Rice, winner of Saturday's $5,000 weekend opener at Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, Mich., was involved in a fronstretch stackup at the start of the second heat race and scratched for the night. ... Chase Burda showed frustration with Dusty Moore following heat race contact that ended his night. ... Rob Anderzack was OK after a rollover crash during the final heat. Anderzack tried to avoid contact with a spinning Bry Johnson, sending him off the turn-one racing surface and upside down.
On the move: Dusty Moore of Swanton, Ohio, started 22nd and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Erb’s winning Best Performance Motorsports Rocket Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and carries sponsorship from Langenfelder Mechanical Contractors, Bulk Material Lift, First Class Septic, Roberts Bee Company, Anthony’s Pizza, JRR Trucking, Base Racing Fuel, Base Oil, Sani-Weld, Inc., Keyser Manufacturing, Integra Racing Shocks, Go Lithium Batteries, Midwest Sheet Metal, Terbo Threads and KBC Graphix.
