Zack Mitchell shows off his big paycheck at Oakshade Raceway.
What won the race: Continuing his fantastic first-ever week on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., led all 40 laps Saturday at Oakshade Raceway for a $10,000 payday and his third victory in five starts. Mitchell ran virtually unchallenged in taking the checkers 1.120 seconds ahead of Trey Mills.
Quotable: "I think it's just been a huge confidence-booster going to these racetracks that I've never been to, never even seen and against this competition," Mitchell said. "Man, all these guys are tough, night in, night out, and to be able to come up here and outrun them, two times in a row and and three times in a week, is huge. It's huge for confidence and it just shows how good the race car is and I'm just the lucky one that gets to drive it."
Key notes: Mitchell's previous series victories came Tuesday at Shadyhill Speedway in Medaryville, Ind., and Friday at Crystal (Mich.) Motor Speedway. ... Runner-up Trey Mills turned up the heat on Mitchell in low-groove traffic late in the race, but a lap-37 caution gave Mitchell clear racetrack in the final laps. ... Mitchell also survived a slightly angled left-front nosepiece late in the race. ... Three cautions slowed the action, the most serious on the lap-37 restart when third-running Tyler Erb spun between turns one and two amid a multicar tangle that included Colten Burdette, Jason Feger, Devin Shiels and more (it appeared Feger tried to go to Erb's outside and caught the corner of Erb's car to trigger the mess). ... The first yellow flew for Thomas Hunziker's lap-nine spin. ... The second caution appeared on lap 37 when Chase Burda found trouble in turn two. ... The feature started about 10:32 p.m. and ended at 10:55 p.m. ... Oakshade's 28th annual Birthday Race is the second-to-last series event with the Summer Nationals wrapping up Sunday at Wayne County Speedway in Orrville, Ohio.
On the move: Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., started 10th and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Mitchell's Brett Coltman-owned Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Coltman Farms Racing, Autism Awareness, Special Needs Schools of Gwinnett, MPM Marketing, SoCar Chemical, DirtCarLift.com, Boswell Oil, VP Racing Fuels, SRI Performance, Bayea Headers, Swift Springs and Bilstein Shocks.
Points chase: Summer Nationals Week 5 after Oakshade: 1. Trey Mills (347); 2. Zack Mitchell (336); 3. Dillon McCowan (295); 4. Jason Feger (294); 5. Mark Whitener (292). Summer Nationals overall after Oakshade: 1. Jason Feger (1,631); 2. Tyler Erb (1,541); 3. Dillon McCowan (1,364); 4. Mark Whitener (1,334); 5. Trey Mills (1,289).

Brothers Brenden and Brody Smith each held serve in finishing third and fourth, respectively. A couple of cautions slowed the action before a lap was completed, including the opening start being called back. … Eli Johnson controlled the entire distance from the pole, winning heat two by 4.862 seconds over second-starting Rob Anderzack. Matt Miller started and finished third, with sixth-starting Rod Conley grabbing the fourth and final transfer spot into Saturday’s 40-lap main event. The initial start was called back twice before a lap could be completed. … Colten Burdette took control from Devin Shiels on a lap-two restart and led the remainder of the eight-lap heat, crossing the line 1.119 seconds ahead of Shiels. Jason Feger held off Mark Whitener for third, with Whitener settling for fourth after running Oakshade’s rough and heavy cushion. The initial start was called back after Burdette was called for jumping. The second stoppage came on lap two when sixth-starting Brayden Shiels slowed; he continued to finish sixth. … Trey Mills overcame multiple restarts to win the fourth and final heat race by 1.275 seconds over Dillon McCowan. Rusty Schlenk held serve in third, while fifth-starting Colin Shipley claimed the fourth and final transfer position into the $10,000-to-win Birthday Race. The opening lap was slowed when Ryder Price stopped down the backstretch and Steve Kester spun in turn four; Kester continued to finish fifth. The second stoppage came on the ensuing restart when Tyler Millwood tangled with Price and David Ellis, with all three spinning; Millwood did not continue, while Ellis finished ninth. The third and final yellow came on the ensuing restart when Price spun and stopped before getting a tow back to the pits; he was credited with 11th. ... Each heat race’s opening lap was slowed by at least one yellow flag and the four prelims combined to last just shy of 30 minutes for completion.
