What won the race: After swapping the lead with Dalton Cook on the 82nd circuit, Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, took command a final time the following lap and paced the remainder of Sunday's National 100 finale at East Alabama Motor Speedway. Taking the checkers 1.274 seconds ahead of runner-up Dennis Erb Jr., the 28-year-old Texan secured a $30,000 paycheck for his second-straight National 100 victory.
Quotable: “I just had to quit making mistakes,” Erb said. “The first night in traffic I smoked a lapped car and let Brandon (Overton) get by me and got flustered, and last night Brandon threw a banana peel out getting into one there and I spun out. We’ve got something going on right there tonight. I don't really know what it is, but the longer the race went on, the better it was.”
Key notes: With his 14th overall victory of the season, Erb became the 52-year event's 12th multi-time winner. ... Ten cautions plagued the 100-lapper. ... Two-time winner Jimmy Owens, who led laps 59-79, rallied to finish third after surrendering the lead to change both rear tires under a lap-79 caution. ... Kyle Bronson overcame a flat right-rear tire on the 81st circuit to finish fourth. ... Late arrival Sam Seawright tagged the back of the 21-car starting field after skipping both prelim features and charged through the field to finish fifth. ... Seventh-finishing Daulton Wilson ran as high as second but relinquished the runner-up spot to change all four tires on his Big Frog Motorsports entry during a lap-48 stoppage. ... EAMS champion Dalton Cook inherited the lead on two occasions and paced a combined 50 laps, but ultimately finished ninth after a bringing out back-to-back cautions in the closing laps. The home-state driver spun from third on lap 85, then slid over the turn-three banking nine circuits later. ... Polesitter Brandon Overton's bid for a third career National 100 victory came to an end on the 12th lap when he slowed from the lead with fluid leaking from his No. 76 as he pulled to the infield. ... Garrett Smith and Mike Benedum brought out consecutive yellow flags with race-ending issues. ... Mark Whitener retired on the ninth circuit. ... J.R. Moseley failed to complete a lap. ... The 100-lapper lasted an hour with 11 starters running at the finish. ... Hadley Greene scratched. ... The late Jaxson Griggs was honored during the four-wide salute as his 602 Late Model paced the field. The 19-year-old died in an automobile accident last month.
On the move: Sam Seawright of Fort Payne, Ala., started 21st and finished fifth.
