Hudson O'Neal flashes under the checkers in Saturday's Winternationals finale at Ocala.
What won the race: Inheriting control after race-long leader Brandon Overton slowed with a flat left-rear tire on lap 36, fourth-starting Hudson O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., paced the remainder of Saturday's 50-lap Wieland Winternationals finale at Ocala Speedway. O'Neal beat Devin Moran to the checkers by 1.474 seconds for the $25,000 payday, his third full-field Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series victory of the season and 34th of his career.
Quotable: “(I’m) speechless, I don’t even know what to say," O'Neal said. "What an amazing start to the year for this SSI Motorsports team. Gotta give credit where credit is due — Kevin Rumley and Longhorn Chassis have helped us some. It’s just so awesome to be in the situation I am, and whenever I crossed the checkered flag, that’s the first thing that came to my mind is I’m just speechless.”
Key notes: O'Neal notched his seventh overall victory of the season and fifth in Georgia-Florida Speedweeks action. It was his 16th career Speedweeks triumph. ... His first three wins of 2026 came aboard the Rumley Engineering No. 6 while the last four have come in his usual SSI Motorsports No. 71 entry. ... O'Neal now has three Ocala victories, adding to 2024's Lucas Oil finale. ... Fifth-starting Devin Moran grabbed second on a lap-39 restart and trailed O'Neal the final 12 laps but never truly challenged for the lead. ... Second-starting Brandon Overton led the opening 36 laps before slowing with a flat left-rear tire under caution; he pitted and continued until retiring on lap 48 for a 17th-place finish. ... Tim McCreadie and Jonathan Davenport moved into third and fourth on a lap-44 restart after third-running Brandon Sheppard slowed with a flat right-rear tire; Sheppard pitted and soldiered to a 15th-place finish. ... Polesitter Drake Troutman slipped to fifth. ... Brenden Smith climbed 10 spots to place sixth. ... Sheppard's woes triggered the fifth and final yellow flag of the night, adding to previous cautions for flat tires when Carson Ferguson slowed with a flat right rear on lap 39 and ninth-running Brian Shirley's flat right rear on lap 37; Overton and Dan Ebert both pitted with flats under the lap-37 yellow. ... Garrett Alberson and Ryan Montgomery slowed with separate incidents on lap 22 after Cory Lawler spun on lap 11 for the race's first slowdown. ... Ocala's 50-lap finale lasted 29 minutes with 16 starters completing the distance. ... The Winternationals conclude with March 4-7 Lucas Oil Series action at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Ga.
On the move: Kyle Bronson of Brandon, Fla., started 25th and finished eighth.

Heat race recap

Drake Troutman overcame an opening lap scrape and paced all eight circuits in winning the first heat race by 0.438 of a second over fourth-starting Devin Moran. Sixth-starting Jonathan Davenport finished third while Ryan Montgomery held on for the fourth and final transfer spot into Saturday’s 50-lap Ocala finale. The first incident necessitated a 10-minute red flag for cleanup after Troutman and Daulton Wilson made contact on the opening lap, sending Wilson spinning, leaving Justin Weaver launching over Wilson’s right front and launching several feet in the air, nearly flipping upside down before landing down hard on the backstretch; both drivers were OK, but scratched for the night. … Brandon Sheppard earned a flag-to-flag victory from the pole in winning the second heat by 0.615 of a second over Brian Shirley, who trailed Sheppard the entire way. Max Blair gained two spots to finish third with third-starting Dan Ebert claiming the fourth and final transfer position into the night’s $25,000-to-win main event. … Polesitter Brandon Overton cruised to win the third heat, leading the entire distance and taking the checkers 0.637 of a second ahead of second-starting Tim McCreadie. Carson Ferguson and Tyler Erb both held serve in completing the top-four finishers. … Hudson O’Neal dominated the night’s fourth and final heat race, commanding all eight laps and winning by 2.206 seconds over Ricky Thornton Jr., who trailed O'Neal all the way. Boom Briggs muscled his way by Brenden Smith on the opening lap to finish third, relegating Smith to fourth.
