Steady evening rain postponed the World 100 to Sunday at 1 p.m. (DirtonDirt.com) ROSSBURG, Ohio (Sept. 8) — Years ago, the World 100 was always held on Sunday. It will be once again this year after steady rain on Saturday night postponed the 37th annual event to Sunday afternoon.
The event's heat races are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at about 10:30 a.m. and a drivers' meeting is scheduled for 11:30.
The announcement, made about 9:30, wasn't greeted by much reaction from the fans still waiting around. Heavy rains beginning about 5:45 stopped for a while a allowed pack trucks on the track, but when a drizzle started again after dark, the outcome appeared inevitable. It's the first time the event has been postponed since Scott Bloomquist won the 1990 edition on Oct 14.
Officials haven't announced plans in case of a Sunday rainout, but an Oct. 27 date was being considered.
Sunday's schedule will include six heat races, two consolation races and the 100-lap main event. The heat race lineups:
