Peterson rolls on

While rain has hampered the XR Northern Storm's six-race stretch of Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series, Tyler Peterson of Hickson, N.D., has captured the events that have slipped through Mother Nature's fingers.

He captured Tuesday's $2,500 payday at Ogilvie (Minn.) Raceway and added Thursday's $2,500 paycheck at Proctor (Minn.) Speedway in a week that continues Friday at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wis., before Saturday's whopping $20,444-to-win event at ABC Raceway in Ashland, Wis. Peterson has a shot at a sweep of the week and a hefty payday.

"Feeling good and feeling nervous at the same time. It's a lot of money," Peterson said Thursday after his Proctor victory. "And if all goes well tomorrow, we've got a pretty good starting spot. So I gotta get through tomorrow, but it's pretty awesome race for $20,000 in a WISSOTA Late Model."

Rain threatened the Proctor feature, but Peterson led flag-to-flag in outrunning Cole Searing of Huron, S.D.

“(I was) a sitting duck man and then the rain came with seven to go and I was paranoid as hell to go back to the high side cause I thought it’d be slippery,” Peterson said. “First lap down there it was (slippery), then I started chopping the bottom to just cover the racetrack a little bit. Hats off to the track, I’ve only been here one other time with my modified and I wheeled that bad boy from ninth to eighth, so it feels good to get a win in the Late Model for sure.”

On the final restart, "Cole is good and I knew he picked the bottom and I'm like, 'Aye, a slider is coming or something, so I'm gonna just chop the racetrack and carry my momentum a little bit.' And then it worked out for us," Peterson added. — Series reports

New car for Stevens

Tyler Stevens of Searcy, Ark., will debut a new chassis this weekend in his first bid to make the Sunoco Race Fuels North-South 100 at Florence Speedway in Union, Ky.

The driver of the Keith Hammett Trucking & Construction No. 2 Super Late Model, a two-time winner this season on the Comp Cams Super Dirt Series, has added a Category 5 Race Car to his stable and will debut his new ride at the northern Kentucky oval.

“First of all, I want to say a big thanks to Keith Hammett for all that he has done for me and my race team,” Stevens said. “Keith has been an avid supporter throughout my career and I am excited where our program is headed. … 2024 has been a great year for me but I am ready for the next chapter.”

Stevens also noted his eagerness to team up with Stormy Scott and the whole team at Category 5 Race Cars.

“Stormy and I have raced together for several years in modifieds and moved to Late Models roughly around the same time. I think that we both have similar driving styles and look for a similar feel in a car, so we have high hopes this will help us both. Also, having a legendary crew chief like Jason Durham in your corner never hurts either.”

Scott and Durham developed the Category 5 cars with Steven joining Stacy Boles of Clinton, Tenn., among other drivers fielding the fledging brand.
