GRANITE CITY, Ill. (Sept. 27) — Inheriting the lead when race-long leader Billy Faust tangled with a lapped car, track champion Bobby Dauderman of Alhambra, Ill., made his 13th victory of 2008 at Tri-City Speedway a big one as he collected $2,500 for winning the inaugural UMP DIRTcar Crate Championships. Dauderman led the final two laps of the 40-lap event and took the checkered flag ahead of Mark Oller of Highland, Ill., Ed Dixon of Washington, Mo., Clay Baumann of Highland and Casey Montague of Lebanon, Ill.

Dauderman kept Faust in his sights the first 25 laps, but the Lebanon, Ill., driver pulled away amid traffic, opening up nearly a half-track margin and lapping all but a half-dozen competitors. But Faust's run was over when he tangled with Shannon Kuhn between turns three and four on lap 38, breaking his car's right-front suspension and sending Kuhn spinning. Dauderman inherited the lead and cruised the final two laps.

Notes: Faust, the track's Super Late Model champion, posted a 15.866-second time trial to lower the track record for Crates. ... Several cars were involved in a major frontstretch scramble at the checkered flag as Kevin Hardin got into Nick Lyons, sending the Lyons car spinning. Lyons ended up ninth, one spot behind Hardin. ... Overall UMP Crate champion Tait Davenport of Paducah, Ky., had a tough night. He was the slowest qualifier after a near-spin in time trials and hit the wall in his heat race. He started as a provisional in the feature, going from 24th to 15th.
