Notes: For the third consecutive season, Carl Short’s Dirt Track World Championship will be contested at Ohio’s Eldora Speedway where the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champ will be crowned. … Devin Moran of Dresden, Ohio, enters with a slim 15-point lead over Thornton as he chases his first career Eldora crown jewel victory. … Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., enters 115 markers back of Moran as he seeks his 12th career Eldora special (five-time World 100 champ (2015, ’17, ’19, ’21-’22), four-time Dream winner (2015, ’23-’25), Eldora Million (2022), Intercontinental Classic (2020). … Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., overtook Tim McCreadie and led the final 17 laps last year to capture his first career DTWC triumph, worth $100,000, while Ricky Thornton Jr. finished third in clinching his first career Lucas Oil Series title. … Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill., held off Hudson O’Neal in dramatic fashion to claim 2023’s $100,000 top prize, as O’Neal was crowned Lucas Oil champ. … Undercard action begins Thursday with modified prelims and a full show for super stocks; Friday’s action includes prelims for two Late Model divisions before a modified feature. … The three-day event concludes with consolations preceding Saturday’s 100-lap, $100,000-to-win main Super Late Model feature and 30-lap, $5,000-to-win for the Burlile Ohio Valley Late Model Dirt Series; Super Late Models will also run a $3,000-to-win Jim Dunn Memorial non-qualifiers’ race Saturday. … Prior to Eldora, the DTWC was previously hosted at several venues, including Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park for 11 seasons (2012-’22) and the recently-revived Pennsboro (W.Va.) Speedway for 17 of its first 21 years (1981-’97, ’01), though neither track hosted Late Model events this season.
