Scott fights off Shaver for MACS victory at Hilltop

MILLERSBURG, Ohio (Sept. 21) — David Scott of Garland, Pa., fought off repeated challenges from polesitter Steve Shaver of Vienna, W.Va., at Hilltop Speedway for his first Mid-Atlantic Championship Series victory since the 2004 season opener. | Slideshow
Scott started outside the front row and jumped into the early lead with Shaver all over him until the first caution appeared on the 20th lap as Mike Balzano and Rick Bond got together.
Scott led Shaver, MACS points leader Jason Covert, Doug Drown and Josh McGuire back to the green flag. Shaver continued his assault of Scott, sometimes edging ahead, but Scott always had an answer to maintain the top spot.
Covert ended up third with Drown fourth and George Lee, Hilltop's regular season Late Model champion, rallying from 18th to finish fifth in the Bob Myers Memorial Fall Showdown
Lee was the fastest qualifier (14.275-second lap) among 43 entries while heat race victories went to Scott, Balzano, Alex Ferree, Rick Aukland and Ryan Markham. Shaver won the dash.
