Georgia-Florida Speedweeks Almanac (Feb. 21)
By Todd Turner
DirtonDirt managing editorSaturday's races: 16th and 17th of 30 originally scheduled Super Late Model events from Jan. 22-March 7.
Venues: All-Tech Raceway in Ellisville, Fla., and Hendry County Motorsports Park in Clewiston, Fla.
Race details: All-Tech’s $15,000-to-win event wraps up a three-race weekend while Hendry County’s $20,000-to-win show caps the World of Outlaws Late Model Series Swamp Cabbage 100 weekend.
Weather forecasts: In Ellisville, cloudy early with partial sunshine later, High 84F (21 percent chance of precipitation) with cloudy skies at night, Low 63F (51 percent chance of precipitation); in Clewiston, sunny and High 85F (4 percent chance of precipitation) and partly cloudy at night, Low 60F (11 percent chance of precipitation).
Who's Hot: Bobby Pierce of Oakwood, Ill., light on victories but on the podium for four straight races.
Who's Not: Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., still seeking his first full-field top-five finish since Arizona.
DirtonDirt prediction: National tour reigning champs Moran and Pierce win again in Saturday night finales. — Todd Turner
Around the Pits: Bobby Pierce’s two victories are his fewest before March since 2022, when he didn’t win until April. … Both of the career-best Lucas Oil runner-up finishes for Clay Harris have come in his home state of Florida. … Dennis Erb Jr. doesn’t have a top-10 finish this month.
Next week: Lucas Oil's Speedweeks action shifts to Ocala (Fla.) Speedway for Feb. 24-28 action.
This Date in Dirt Late Model History: On Feb. 21, 1981, Charlie Swartz of Lucasville, Ohio — the week after a legendary disqualification at Volusia County Speedway — captured his first career victory at East Bay Raceway Park in Gibsonton, Fla., in the weekend’s All-Star Circuit of Champions finale, snapping Kenny Brightbill’s two-race winning streak.
Speedweeks trivia: Tyler Reddick is the lone Dirt Late Model Speedweeks winner to win the Daytona 500. What Speedweeks winner had a brother who won the Great American Race? (Answer in Tuesday’s almanac; Friday's answer: Wisconsin driver Pat Doar won his lone career Speedweeks event in 1997 at Volusia for his second career Late Model victory.)
