The inaugural Wings & Warriors Tour at Canandaigua Speedway will feature the world’s most prolific dirt track racers from the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series on May 25 and the World of Outlaws Late Model Series on June 23. Fans planning on hitting both events can save some money.
Spectators who purchase the $65 Wings & Warriors Tour advance reserved combo ticket package for the sprints May 25 and the Late Models June 23 will receive a pit pass to each event. That’s a savings of $80 over purchasing the same tickets on race day. Tickets can be reserved at the DIRTcar Racing Northeast Region office by calling (315) 834-6606.
“Last year the World of Outlaws Late Model Series came to Canandaigua Speedway and put on an incredible show in front of a packed house,” track general manager Jack Deery said. “Ours fans asked for the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars to come back, too. We’re thrilled we can make that happen, and offer our fans an affordable combo ticket with the opportunity to get a pit pass for free to both events. I believe the Wings & Warriors Tour will be the biggest thing Canandaigua Speedway has seen in a long, long time."

WITH NEW CHASSIS, BARBARA FOLLOWING NEW SERIES: Veteran driver Keith Barbara of South Park, Pa., plans to run a new chassis on a new series in 2009. The former Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway and Latrobe Speedway champion, 30, will field a Jim Bernheisel-designed Lazer Chassis and chase the O'Reilly All Star Late Model Series. "We were looking into making a change after the 2008 season and we talked to Jim and Brandon (Bernheisel) at PRI in Orlando," Barbara said. "A few days after we came home from Florida, Jim called us about teaming up for 2009. We always had a solid relationship with those guys from running with the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series and with their help; I think this will be a smooth transition." TWO-TRACK BONUS IN PENNSYLVANIA: Pennsylvania dirt tracks Marion Center Speedway and Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongsville are offering the Super Late Model Championship Challenge in 2009, which will pay a $10,000 bonus if a driver can sweep both track championships. The tracks use identical rules and both race on open tires. The track championships pay $3,000 apiece (paying down through 10th place, which pays $500), meaning a two-title sweep would be worth $16,000. Shawn McGarvey of Coalport, Pa., (at Dog Hollow) and Dave Satterlee of Home, Pa. (Marion Center) won track championships last year, but not many drivers competed regularly at both tracks. According to 2008 points, only four drivers appeared in the top 25 at both tracks. — From staff reports
