Notes: 'Ride For Life' treats fans at EAMS
Competitors with the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will take part in the "Ride For Life" program on May 23 at East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City to help the American Cancer Society find a cure for the nation’s most deadly disease. The program involves the fans bidding for a ride at race speed around the track in a special built two-seat Dirt Late Model.
Race fans will have the opportunity to bid for a ride with local NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series favorites Scott Knowles of Lanett, Ala., Terrance Nowell of Phenix City, Dana Eiland of Salem, Ala., Montana Dudley of Phenix City and NeSmith touring driver Derrick Rainey of Powder Springs, Ga.
“This is a rare opportunity for the race fans to experience the sport of Dirt Late Model racing from a new perspective in that they can see, hear and feel what their favorite driver does, but instead of watching them at a distance from the grandstands, they can sit right next them in the race car,” said series spokesman Roby Helm. “They see the wall coming up fast, they hear the constant roar of the engine, and they feel breeze coming through the cockpit and the G-forces leaning them to the right in the seat. There is no amusement park ride that can come close to the 100 mph Ride For Life.”
At selected events on the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series schedule; race fans will have the opportunity to bid for a six-lap ride at race speed around the track with their favorite driver. They can also purchase tickets that give them an opportunity to win a ride through a drawing. All of the proceeds go to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society. — From series reports
FASTRAK TRIPLEHEADER WILL BE NETCAST: The Fastrak Racing Series touring events on May 22-24 will be netcast live so fans can hear audio of each event. Fastrak fans can visit www.dirtcast.com each evening to listen to the racing acution. The Memorial Day weekend takes Fastrak competitors from Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., to Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va., to Princeton (W.Va.) Raceway. Wythe's $3,000-to-win event is sandwiched by a pair of $2,000-to-win races for Crate Late Models. — From series reports
BIG WEEKEND SET FOR NeSMITH COMPETITORS: The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will embark on a three-day, three-race Alabama Bonus Bucks weekend on May 22-24 that could pay the winner a possible $8,500 in prize money, point fund money, and bonuses. Penton Raceway ($2,000-to-win), East Alabama Motor Speedway ($2,500-to-win) and Deep South Speedway ($2,000-to-win) in Loxley host Memorial Day weekend events. A weekend points fund pays $1,000 to the top driver while any driver sweeping the three events earns a $1,000 bonus. Two-time series champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, Tenn., leads series points after eight events. — From series reports
FASTRAK SUSPENDS DELLINGER FOR ENGINE VIOLATION: Fastrak Northeast announced Wednesday that driver Alan Dellinger and car owner Bob Williams Racing have been suspended and fined by the Fastrak Racing Series after a cylinder head protest following his May 15 victory at Raceway 7 in Conneaut, Ohio. Dellinger and Williams can't compete in Fastrak events for 365 days and each have been fined $1,000 along with the loss of all points and monies earned. Dellinger and Williams can appeal the decision. — Mike Leone
ODDS AND ENDS: Fastrak Northeast added a July 25 at Pittsburgh's Pennsylvania Motor Speedway to the 2009 schedule. The $1,200 to-win show gives the tour 17 events at 11 different racetracks. ... Michael Arnold, who picked up his third victory of the season May 15 at his hometown Hattiesburg (Miss.) Motorsports Park, leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model West Region for weekly racers; Scott Knowles of Lanett, Ala., leads the East Region.
