Madden wins Southern Nationals makeup at Tri-County

BRASSTOWN, N.C. (Oct. 3) — Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., wrapped up the Southern Nationals points title in July, but he added to his series earnings by winning the makeup race of a twice-rained out event at Tri-County Racetrack. Madden led all 35 laps to earn $3,500 in the Wednesday night special on the tour promoted by hometown driver Ray Cook.
Josh McGuire of Ashland, Ky., finished second followed by Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., Rick Rogers of Knoxville, Tenn., and Shane Tankersley of Morganton, Ga.
The victory marked Madden's 14th overall of the season; he won six of nine Southern Nationals events.

Madden's Bloomquist Race Car has a Clements Racing Engine and sponsorship from Century Plastics, Henderson Amusements, Jacky Jones Automotive Group and Time Out Family Restaurant. ... Tri-County was scheduled to the unsanctioned Tar Heel 50 on Oct. 4, $3,500-to-win event also promoted by Cook. The Thursday night event was originally set to lead into Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action at Rome and Dixie Speedways in Georgia, events that have since been cancelled because of the death of Mike Swims, whose family promotes the tracks. ... The Southern Nationals feature at Tri-County was rained out on July 19 and again on July 25. ... Shane Tankersley rallied from 17th to finish fifth.
