Matthees collects $4,000 at Viking Fall Classic

ALEXANDRIA, Minn. (Oct. 5-6) — Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn., captured the Viking Fall Classic at Viking Speedway for a $4,000 payday. Matthees, who started fourth, held off 13th-starting Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario, for the WISSOTA-sanctioned victory. | Slideshow
Track champion Jeff Wildung of Nassau, Minn., came from his eighth starting spot to finish eighth followed by overall WISSOTA points leader Zach Johnson of Lowry, Minn. Pat Doar of New Richmond, Wis., who came from deep in a consoation race to advance to the feature, rallied from 23rd-to-fifth in the main event.
Matthees, Matt Aukland, Wildung and Rick Nelson were Late Model heat race winners on the opening night of the two-day event. The race drew 42 Late Models.
The weekend's other WISSOTA special, the Proctoberfest at Proctor (Minn.) Speedway, was rained out and won't be rescheduled.
