WINCHESTER, Va. (Sept. 25) — Bo Feathers and Tommy Armel make up an all-hometown front row for the Super Late Model portion of the 46th annual Winchester 200 at Winchester Speedway, an unsanctioned event scheduled to pay $10,000 for Sunday's main event winner. Feathers, a four-time track champion, and Armel, the 2009 track champion, ran 1-2 in a Friday night heat race and again in the dash to earn the top starting spots at the 3/8-mile oval.
Other top starters include Rick Eckert of York, Pa., on the second row alongside Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, Pa., who lowered Booper Bare's 9-year-old track record in qualifying with a 15.186-second lap. Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., starts fifth in the Ernie Davis-owned No. 25 and Bare, of Rockbridge Baths, Va., starts alongside in the third row.
Stuhler is going for an unprecedented 10th victory in Winchester's biggest event. His ninth victory came in 2005.
Notes: Bo Feathers is going for his second straight victory following a $5,000 win Sept. 19 at Eastside Speedway in Waynesboro, Va. ... Sunday's schedule includes 20-lap consolation races and the 100-lap feature plus action in three other divisions. ... Booper Bare's former track record, set in 2000, was 15.257 seconds. ... Last year's winner Steve Francis isn't in attendance.
