Briggs edges Stone in Fall Classic opener
EAST SMETHPORT, Pa. (Sept. 25) — Boom Briggs of Bear Lake, Pa., made a late-race pass of Dan Stone of Thompson, Pa., for a victory in a Friday's Fall Classic tuneup at McKean County Raceway. Briggs, who swept last year's Fall Classic weekend, earned $2,000 for the 30-lap Northern Tier United Late Model Series triumph.
Stone settled for second followed by Bump Hedman of Sugar Grove, Pa., Russ King of Bristolville, Ohio, and Rob Blair of Titusville, Pa.
Notes: Saturday's $12,000-to-win Priority Care RaceFAN 50 at McKean County was rained out and rescheduled for Oct. 3. ... Mike Knight of Ripley, N.Y., won Thursday's $1,000-to-win King of the Hill Challenge. ... Among drivers failing to make Friday's feature: Al Brewer, Scott Gurdak, John Lobb, Scott Johnson, Luke Hoffner, Darrell Bossard, Andy Kania, Doug Eck and Jared Miley.
