Tiebreaker gives Diemel Fastrak's weekly crown

A.J. Diemel of Navarino, Wis., won a tiebreaker with Mike Pegher Jr of Wexford, Pa., to win overall Fastrak Racing Series City Chevrolet Weekly Racing Division championship for Crate Late Model racers. Diemel won 17 of 21 starts in Fastrak's Great Lakes Region en route to the $10,000 title.
Diemel and Pegher tied atop the point standings with 705 points in a system that counts a driver's best 15 finishes, but the tie was broken in Diemel's favor. Ties are broken on the basis of a head-to-head comparison of total victories, then runner-up finishes, then third-place finishes and so on until a winner emerges.
Pegher, who competes in the Fastrak Northeast Region, settled for second while Southeast Region driver Brandon Haley of Lavonia, Ga., was third. Last year's champion, Max Blair of Centerville, Pa., was fourth and fellow Fastrak Northeast driver David Scott of Garland, Pa., rounded out the top five.
The rest of the top 10: Royce Bray of Hull, Ga.; Bobby Powell of Meadville, Pa.; Parker Herring of Hartwell, Ga.; Mike Faykus of Prosperity, W.Va.; and Justin Hirt of Tigerton, Wis.
Most of those drivers will be competing at Fastrak's Grand Nationals on Oct. 21-24 at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn., and Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va., when Fastrak will crown its $30,000 Grand National champion.
