Kloos outduels Shirley, Feger to win at Highland
HIGHLAND, Ill. (July 27) — Michael Kloos of Trenton, Ill., outdueled visiting Illinois aces Brian Shirley and Jason Feger on Tuesday for a dramatic victory in the Madison County Fair Race at Highland Speedway. Kloos earned $3,000 for the UMP DIRTcar-sanctioned victory as he took the checkers a half-length ahead of Feger. | Illinois weekly results
Track points leader Chad Zobrist of Highland finished third followed by Mark Faust of Breese, Ill., and hometown driver Dan Jacober.
Shirley led most of the way in the main event on the high side while the low-running Kloos moved up to pressure him. But Shirley got into the wall one too many times, breaking he right-front suspension on his Tim Lance-owned car and falling out of the race.
That handed the lead to Kloos, but he had his hands full with Feger, who managed to take a run at the lead despite packing his right-side wheels full of mud while running the cushion.
