Plans for Georgia's portion of Georgia-Florida Speedweeks are shaping up with announcements this week of three unsanctioned Dirt Late Model races paying $10,000 to the winner at south Georgia ovals.

Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., has scheduled a new event for Feb. 3 while Golden Isles Speedway near Brunswick, Ga., has announced its Super Bowl of Racing VII will be held Feb. 4-5. | February 2011 special events

At Screven, the inaugural Winter Freeze will feature unsanctioned Super Late Models on the card along with a $10,000-to-win event for the O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars. Promoter James "Redd" Griffin is making plans to provide heaters under the bleachers to help warm fans attending the event. For more information, see www.screvenmotorspeedway.com or call (912) 754-5882.

At Golden Isles, the Super Bowl will run unsanctioned for the first time after UMP DIRTcar and Southern All Star sanctioning in recent years. The Super Late Model Feb. 4 and 5 events will feature complete programs with time trials, heat races, consolations and 50-lap features at the 4/10-mile oval. The limited sportsman division is also expected to be in action. Practice is scheduled for Feb. 3. More details should be available soon at www.goldenislesspeedway.com.

All three Georgia races will be officiated by KelCar Motorsports. Officials plan an open-tire rule with all tires subject to testing at an independent lab to check for chemically-enhanced rubber. — From staff and track reports

LOUISIANA TRACK DIVES IN WITH MAJOR EVENT: ArkLaTex Speedway, a quarter-mile oval in extreme northwestern Louisiana, has scheduled what's likely to be the richest Dirt Late Model race of 2011 in the Bayou State. The Vivian, La., track, promoted by Gene Boyter, plans to run the unsanctioned Pelican 100 on Feb. 25-26, a race paying $10,000 to the winner, track announcer Bill Kitchen said. Details haven't been finalized but the race will be sponsored by a pair of oil-field businesses, Childress Rentals of Haughton, La., and P&W Sales of Kilgore, Texas. The 7-year-old track, where modifieds are the headlining division weekly, has hosted three previous Late Model events with home-state drivers Ronny Adams, Kyle Cummings and Rob Litton taking checkered flags. Look for more details later at www.arklatexspeedway.net. — From staff reports

VOLUNTEER RACING SERIES GETS SISTER TOUR: The 1-year-old Volunteer Racing Series is getting a sister series in 2011 with the addition of the Midwest Dirt Racing League. The tour will include a 10- to 15-race schedule in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and Indiana with $3,000-to-win events similar to the VRS, promoter Chris Tilley said. Tilley also announced the tours will carry the STARS moniker and be sponsored by Arizona Sport Shirts, and several events will be co-sanctioned by both series. For more information, call Tilley at (606) 219-1723. — From series reports

ODDS AND ENDS: UMP DIRTcar West plans to revive the California-based Western Allstars DIRTcar Late Model Series and Oregon-based Northwest DIRTcar Late Model Tour (formerly Northwest I-5) in 2011. California dates are expected at Placerville, Antioch and Merced while Oregon host tracks are expected to be Willamette, Cottage Grove and Southern Oregon. ... Don Hoener has taken over promotions at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., for the 2011 season. Hoener previously served as the track's competition with the Allied Auto Racing Association officials. The track will run the same UMP-sanctioned divisions, including Late Models. The track hosts the UMP DIRTcar Summernationals June 29.
