BUDDS CREEK, Md. (May 20) – D.J. Myers of Greencastle Pa., made his first start of the season at Potomac Speedway a profitable one by winning Friday night’s 35-lap Ed Canupp Memorial. Myers earned $2,200 for his fourth career Potomac Late Model feature victory.

Second-starting Roland Mann jumped to the lead over polesitter Dale Hollidge on the first lap of the race while Myers quickly began moving forward from fourth. Myers reached second by the lap two and applied heavy pressure to Mann.

After failing to find a way around Mann early in the race, a lap-13 caution gave Myers the opportunity he needed. He used the restart to move ahead of Mann led final 22 laps to score the victory in his Greg Gunter-owned, PPM Chassis.

“I can’t thank Greg Gunter (car owner) and all the guys on the crew for this win tonight.” Myers said. “With the economy the way it is today if it weren’t for Greg allowing me to drive his cars, I probably wouldn’t be racing.

“Roland was running a pretty good line and I knew my only shot would come on a re-start and the car was working really good so I went high in turn two and the car stuck and we were able to pull off the win.”

As Myers went on to win, Mann began to feel heavy pressure from teammate David Williams. The two drivers raced side-by-side for the final 18 laps of the contest with Mann prevailing at the stripe for the runner-up finish.

Williams settled for third while Jamie Lathroum and Hollidge completed the top five.

Ed Canupp Memorial: (1) D.J. Myers, (2) Roland Mann, (3) David Williams, (4) Jamie Lathroum, (5) Dale Hollidge (6) Darryl Hills, (7) Keith Jackson, (8) Deane Guy, (9) Rick Hulson, (10) Dave Adams, (11) Ryan Hackett, (12) Duane Harbaugh. Heat race winners: Williams, Mann.
