The National Dirt Racing Association has set a two-race playoff for the NDRA Dirt Wars presented by Goodyear with a pair of $3,000-to-win Crate Late Model races on Sept. 9-10 in the Carolinas.
Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., will host the weekend opener while Lancaster (S.C.) Speedway hosts the finale for a pair of events that carry a $15,000 total purse each night.
“We want to settle it on the track,” said NDRA President Larry Lee. “We spoke to a lot of a race teams and it was overwhelming the response we received. We have had a great year with the Road Show and League Championship Series events.”
With NDRA's City Chevrolet League Championship Series action for weekly tracks wrapping up this weekend, Ron Parker of Belwood, N.C., will head competitors to the Dirt Wars weekend after already wrapping up his second consecutive weekly title. Parker, who had more than 20 victories throughout the season, also won NDRA's Heintz Performance Road Show touring crown.
Other weekly competitors expected for the NDRA Dirt Wars weekend are Steve Banal, Timbo Mangum, Kent Peckham and Ronnie Mosley, the top five in NDRA weekly points.
Any driver that has accumulated 10 NDRA points will be eligible to compete in the $30,000 Dirt Wars weekend. That number was reduced because of several rainouts and cancellations.
“We will have a banquet in January to celebrate our season and award out City Chevrolet League Championship and Heintz Performance Road Show champions with their awards,” Lee said.
Banquet details will be announced later.
