VMS extends ticket discounts for Commonwealth 100

JAMAICA, Va. — After weeks of preparation, the gates at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway will swing open for the 2012 season Friday and Saturday for the April 13-14 Commonwealth 100.
This year’s edition will have a new twist as the Lucas Oil Late Model series will now sanction the $25,000 to win event during a weekend that will also include a $3,000-to-win non-qualifiers' race.
The Commonwealth 100 will once again see the best of the Dirt Late Model world converging on the half-mile oval including Lucas Oil Series champions Jimmy Owens, Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson Jr. and last year's winner Steve Shaver.
Fans can take advantage of the track's announcement that VMS extend the discounted two-day advance ticket pricing through Friday.
“With the current gas prices, our fans are facing we wanted to help ease the sting by extending our advance ticket prices through Friday,” said track owner Bill Sawyer.
Two-day advanced adult tickets are $30 with prices $27 for seniors and military members, and $15 for ages 7-17. All tickets are general admission. No reserved seats will be sold for the event. Saturday-only ticket prices are $35 for adults, $32 for senior and military and $15 for ages 7-17. Children 6-and-under are free.
Fans can purchase tickets at vamotorspeedway.com by downloading the advance ticket order form and sending it to the track with a money order or cashier’s check (no personal checks), or by calling the speedway office at (804) 758-1867 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and using a Mastercard, Visa or Discover card.
The event kicks off Friday with time trials and heat races. Saturday's schedule includes consolation races, the 30-lap non-qualifiers' race and the headline 100-lapper. The raindate is Sunday.
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. both days with grandstand gates opening at 5 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be a BB&T “Meet and Greet” with Lucas Oil Series drivers from 4:15-5:15 p.m. on Saturday. On-track activities will begin both days about 6 p.m. with hot laps.
Lucas Oil Studios will also be on hand to tape the event. The Commonwealth 100 will be the first televised event in 2012 on the series, appearing on the Speed cable network and the NBC Sports Network. Speed's program is scheduled for 6 p.m. May 13 while NBC Sports Network's program is 6 p.m. June 10.
