WINCHESTER, Va. (Sept. 21) — Outside front-row starter Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., raced to victory Friday at Winchester Speedway in the semifeature for the weekend’s unsanctioned Winchester 200.

Driving a Team Dillon Racing entry, the 46-year-old McDowell led all 35 laps for a $3,500 payday in a 24-car feature set by time trials. Fast qualifier Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., finished second in the Ernie Davis-owned No. 25.

Nick Dickson of Lewistown, Pa., was third followed by Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., and hometown driver Tommy Armel. The race was slowed four times, including on the seventh lap when Jeremy Miller’s No. 1m rolled over. He wasn’t injured.

Saturday’s action continues at Winchester with a pair of $1,000-to-win, 25-lap qualifying features based on Friday’s time trials. The top 12 from each transfer to the 50-lap finale paying $8,000-to-win.

Winchester Speedway: (1) Dale McDowell, (2) Austin Hubbard, (3) Nick Dickson, (4) Jason Covert, (5) Tommy Armel (complete finish unavailable). Fast qualifier (among 45 cars): Hubbard, 14.192 seconds. Non-qualifers’ race winner: Bo Feathers.
