WINCHESTER, Va. (Sept. 22) — Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga., wrapped up a perfect weekend at Winchester Speedway Saturday night with a dominating performance in the 3/8-mile oval’s unsanctioned Winchester 200.
McDowell, who earned a $3,500 victory in Friday’s Winchester 200 semifeature, led every lap of Saturday night’s 50-lap finale for an $8,000 payday. McDowell also earned a $1,000 victory in one of Saturday’s two 25-lap qualifying features and a $2,500 bonus for being a first-time winner of the event, pushing his total weekend gross to $15,000. | Slideshow | McDowell wins Winchester opener
“That will certainly make the ride back home to Georgia pretty nice.” McDowell, who debuted a new MasterSbilt Race Car for Team Dillon Racing, said of his weekend’s earnings. “I knew we had a good race car and it was important to beat (Myers) into the first turn at the start, and we were able to do that.
“This has been a great weekend. To come here this weekend with a brand new race car and win every race we were in, just shows what a great team we have in TDR racing.”
D.J. Myers of Greencastle, Pa., followed McDowell to the finish in Saturday’s main event with Jason Covert of York Haven, Pa., third. Kenny Moreland of Waldord, Md., was fourth with Friday’s runner-up Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., rounding out the top five.
Notes: McDowell and his Team Dillon Racing team debuted a new MasterSbilt Race Car at the event. … Main event runner-up D.J. Myers cruised to victory in the night’s other qualifying feature. ... Hubbard, the event’s fast qualifier, drove Ernie Davis' No. 25 Rocket Chassis at the event. ... Jeremy Miller was not in action Saturday after a flipping incident in Friday's feature. ... Tanner Kerr won the Limited Late Model feature. ... Super Late Model drivers failing to make the main event lineup: Trever Feathers, Dale Hollidge, Tim Burkholder, Scott Rhodes, Rusty Sites, Kyle Hardy, Keith Jackson, Jeremy Miller, Ernie Millon, David Pettyjohn, Brian Tavenner, Bo Feathers, Richard Jarvis Jr., Mike Lupfer, Tom Decker, Gerald Davis, Kris Eaton, Jimmy Richards, Brad Ritter, Sean Dawson and Jonathon DeHaven. ... Late Models return to Winchester on October 19-20 for the third annual Raye Vest Memorial, a similar format to the Winchester 200 capped by an $8,000-to-win main event.
