Pounds repeats at Bakersfield's Bud Nationals

The fourth-starting Pounds, who topped 36 entrants in qualifying, raced to victory in the caution-free 40-lapper for the second year in a row at the third-mile oval.
Jeremy Shank of Salem, Ore., finished second with Andy Obertello of Hollister, Calif., in third. Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz., and Jason Papich of Nipomo, Calif., rounded out the top five finishers.
Notes: Pounds, son of former West Coast standout Scott Pounds, drives the No. 1P sponsored by Mid-Cal Fabrication, Richie McGowan, Polinos Racing and Black Jack Power Swivel. ... Only Pounds and John Lowrey were under 14 seconds in time trials. ... Missouri invader Jesse Stovall won $2,000 in Friday's Bud Nationals event. Stovall piloted a No. 36 car owned by Larry Brown and wrenched by Chris Sivesind this weekend at Bakersfield. ... The event brought the track's season to a close.
