Fisher breaks through, hooks first MSCCS win

COLUMBUS, Miss. (May 25) — Tenth-starting Clay Fisher of Dewitt, Ark., claimed his first-career Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series event Saturday night at Columbus Speedway, earning $2,500 at the high-banked third-mile oval in leading only the final lap. | Slideshow

Former series champion Chris Wall of Springfield, La., was leading when he tangled with a lapped car on the final lap and settled for second behind Fisher. Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., third followed by Eric Cooley of Fulton, Miss., and pole-starting Neil Baggett of Shannon, Miss.

Notes: Fisher drives a MasterSbilt Race Car powered by a Kuntz & Co. Racing Engine and sponsored by Fisher Transportation Services, Horton Diesel Repair, Palmer Fisher Trucking, Moon’s Towing and Recovery, Stuckey Enterprises, X-treme Graphics. ... Fisher became the second consecutive first-time winner on the series; Ross Camponovo of Clarksdale, Miss., won his first series race at Greenville (Miss.) Speedway on May 18. ... Wall was on the verge of notching a series-leading third victory of the season. ... MSCCS competitors head to Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., on June 1 for a $2,500-to-win event.
