I-80 among 3 tracks set for July pay-per-views

May 31, 2013, 10:33 am
From staff reports

This summer's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series swing through Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska will see one of the national tour's biggest audiences of the year with three races set to be broadcast live on DirtonDirt.com July 16-20.

The four-night, three-race broadcast, the first featuring the Lucas Oil Series on DirtonDirt.com, is the first installment of DirtonDirt.com’s plan to broadcast select Lucas Oil Series events throughout the second half of the season. Additional races will be announced in the coming weeks.

The initial broadcast kicks off July 16 with the Lucas Oil tour's visit to Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., followed July 17 by a series event at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa. After a night off, the broadcast culminates with one of the year's biggest events in the $27,000-to-win Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb., July 19-20. All three broadcasts will not only feature action for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, but also every lap of racing for the United States Modified Touring Series. | Order live video

The I-80 Speedway broadcast will bring one of the fastest-growing events in dirt track racing to its biggest audience yet. Since it started in 2011, the Silver Dollar Nationals has grown into one of dirt track racing’s must-see annual events. The race brings together some of the sport’s biggest stars with not only the Lucas Oil Series competitors in action, but also the country’s best Open-Wheel Modified drivers competing in USMTS action.

“I just think this is the best show in dirt track racing right now with the Lucas Oil Series and the USMTS modifieds together for one big weekend,” I-80 Speedway promoter Joe Kosiski said. “It’s a whole bunch of racing, and I’m excited for people to get to see it live on DirtonDirt.com!”

Fans can place their pay-per-view orders now by clicking here. Prices for the initial three-race broadcast are set at $18.99 for DirtonDirt.com subscribers and non-DirtonDirt.com subscribers. Two-day packages are available for the Lakeside Speedway and Hamilton County Speedway events as well as for both nights of I-80 Speedway’s Silver Dollar Nationals. DirtonDirt.com subscribers can order either two-night package for a discounted price of $35, while the price for non-subscribers is $37. Non-subscribers receive a free one-month DirtonDirt.com subscription with any pay-per-view broadcast order.

Launched in 2007 as a news and video source for Dirt Late Model racing, DirtonDirt.com has quickly become an industry leader among online dirt racing broadcasters since hosting its first live video broadcast in 2010. The list of events broadcast by DirtonDirt.com includes some of the most prestigious annual dirt races, including Cedar Lake Speedway's $50,000-to-win USA Nationals, Arizona's Wild West Shootout and Winter Extreme miniseries and I-30 Speedway's Short Track Nationals for Sprint Cars.

Both Lakeside and Hamilton County are new venues for the Lucas Oil Series with the two half-mile ovals each hosting their first-ever series events. I-80 Speedway's mega-event is set to be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Series for the second consecutive year after the series made its first trip to the pristine 4/10-mile oval for the second annual Silver Dollar Nationals in 2012.

Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine, Iowa, claimed a $26,000 payday in last year's Silver Dollar Nationals, while the inaugural running of the event saw Don O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., claim an unsanctioned victory worth $25,000.

The Cornhusker State's biggest dirt racing event features a unique format with drivers competing in a pair of heat races on Friday night, July 19 to determine their starting spots in the 80-lap main event set for Saturday, July 20. The lineups for each of Friday's heat races are set by a pill draw with competitors earning passing points in each of their heat races based on their finishing positions and the number of cars they pass. The passing points will then be used to set the lineups for consolation races and the feature event.

The events at Lakeside and Hamilton County will rank among the biggest races either track has ever hosted. Visit www.lakesidespeedway.net for more information about Lakeside and www.hamiltoncospeedway.com for more information about Hamilton County.

All three races are expected to attract solid fields of competitors, highlighted by an impressive list of Lucas Oil Series regulars and USMTS competitors. The Lucas Oil Series boosts a roster of premier Late Model pilots with Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., Don O'Neal of Martinsville, Ind., and Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., among the contenders for the tour's coveted points championship this season.
