Vintage car lifts Everhart to anniversary-race win

CENTRAL CITY, Pa. (June 7) — On a nostalgic night at Thunder Valley Raceway, a Late Model victory by Steve Everhart of Canoe Creek, Pa., fit right in. The track celebrated its 11th anniversary and Everhart brought out a 10-year-old Late Model powered by an 8-year-old engine. The vintage equipment was good enough to carry Everhart to his eighth career victory at the picturesque half-mile oval.
Polesitter Dave Bloss led early with Scott Rhodes moving into second by the third lap and setting his sites on the leader. Everhart, who started fifth, soon worked his way into contention, taking the second spot from Rhodes on the 10th and going after Bloss.
After battling for a few laps, Everhart got around Bloss to lead the 13th lap and stretched his lead the rest of the way. Seventh-starting Rodney Sweitzer rallied late to finish second as he took that position from Rhodes in the final laps. Bloss settled for fourth and Wayne Johnson rounded out the top five.
In the night's Semi-Late Model feature, former street stock driver Brian Duffy started fifth and overtook Jim Saylor on the sixth lap and raced to a feature victory.
