Joseph Joiner celebrates his victory in the SAS debut at Buckshot Speedway.
What won the race: Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., led all 40 laps from the pole en route to winning Saturday's Buckshot 40 feature at Buckshot Speedway, topping the XR Southern All Star Dirt Series field for $4,000. The victory was the fifth of Joiner's career with the Southern All Stars.
Quotable: “This is the shot in the arm that our team needed. We haven’t had much luck on our side here lately, but we broke out the broom on Saturday night. We couldn’t have hoped for a better night, especially at a brand-new track,” Joiner said. “Even when things aren’t going our way, we’ve got some of the best supporters that a race team could ever ask for, and this win is for each and every person who supports us through the thick and the thin.”
Key notes: Joiner's 12.675-second qualifying time established the track's Late Model track record as Buckshot hosted the division for the first time. ... Six cautions slowed the action. ... Nine drivers completed 40 laps. ... Todd Morrow contended early but retired after nine laps. … The track, which ran its first event last fall, is owned by Billy Wilkins. … The series was mourning the unexpected death of tour technical inspector Eddie Rowland. He was previously a crew chief for several Southern drivers including Hall of Famer Jack Boggs, former SAS champ Duayne Hommel and Mark Vineyard.
On the move: Matt Dooley of Fayetteville, Ga., started 16th and finished ninth.
