What won the race: Pole-starting Dillon Brown of Gaffney, S.C., led all but two laps at Virginia Motor Speedway, topping the Fastrak Crate Racing Series and winning Saturday's $5,000 King of the Commonwealth feature. Brown's victory is his third of the season, including a $10,000 payday when he topped the Crate Racin' USA national tour in its return to Rome (Ga.) Speedway.
Quotable: “Man, I feel like this place owes me one. We’ve been really really good here, just never had the finishes to show for it, seems like we always get wrecked out and I thought I gave it away again,” Brown said. “I just gotta give my hat off to Russell man, this guy has come on with me since 2021 and completely turned my career around. He makes all the right calls in the pits and it just makes me look like the hero, but I’m just the monkey holding the wheel.”
Key notes: Corey Almond briefly took the lead from Brown on the lap-15 restart, but only held the point for one additional lap before fading to finish fifth. ... Tyler Bare moved into the runner-up position on lap 23 and pressured Brown in the closing laps, finishing 1.366 seconds back. ... Jeremy Pilkerton completed the podium in third. ... Ray Love advanced six positions and finished fourth. ... Nick Davis overcame a spin on lap 14 and finished sixth. ... Bud Stinson gained five spots and finished seventh. ... The biggest incident occurred on lap 14 when fourth-running Austin Hubbard clipped the guardrail at exit of turn two, sending his car sharply to the left and in harm's way; Hubbard's wounded vehicle was hit extremely hard by Jacob Brown and Trevor Collins, necessitating a 10-minute red flag for cleanup. While all drivers were unhurt, the multi-car incident ended each of their nights. ... Saturday's feature, the first successfully completed Fastrak touring series event since 2021, was slowed by seven incidents and lasted 40 minutes, with 11 competitors completing all 40 laps.
On the move: Curtis Hughes of Bohannon, Va., started 16th and finished ninth.
Winner's sponsors: Brown’s Longhorn Chassis has a Hendren Racing Engine and is sponsored by Cherokee Landscaping, Pro Fabrication, Trailer Queen, Performance Automotive, Moorhead Bros., RK Designs Fabrication & Technologies, Renegade Fuels, Cruisin’ Thru Grab ‘N Go, Wray’s Wraps, Penske Shocks and Hardison Suspension Technologies.
