What won the race: Second-starting Tyler Peterson of Hickson, N.D., led flag-to-flag in Thursday's 40-lap XR Northern Storm second round at Proctor Speedway, earning his second Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series triumph of the week. Peterson nabbed his eighth career WCS victory and his series-best fifth of the season to extend his points lead.

Quotable: “(I was) a sitting duck man and then the rain came with seven to go and I was paranoid as hell to go back to the high side cause I thought it’d be slippery,” Peterson said. “First lap down there it was (slippery), then I started chopping the bottom to just cover the racetrack a little bit. Hats off to the track, I’ve only been here one other time with my modified and I wheeled that bad boy from ninth to eighth, so it feels good to get a win in the Late Model for sure.”

Key notes: Peterson is 2-for-2 to start the XR Northern Storm miniseries after also winning Tuesday's $2,500 opener at Ogilvie (Minn.) Raceway. ... Four-time winner this season Cole Searing pursued Peterson the final 14 laps, but never truly challenged for the lead before finishing 1.059 seconds back. ... Eighth-starting Jeff Massingill trailed Peterson from laps 12-26 before giving way to Searing and settling for third. ... Kyle Peterlin advanced eight positions and rounded out the top five. ... Dave Flynn gained 11 spots and placed ninth. ... The feature was slowed by five cautions, the first coming on lap three when Billy Kendall III slowed from 11th and pulled off. ... The second yellow flag came on lap 12 after pole-starting Ashley Anderson slowed from second. He also pulled off and called it a night. ... Jesse Glenz slowed to cause the third stoppage on lap 26 before retiring. ... The fourth slowdown came on lap 33 when Gunner Frank slowed to a stop. He did not continue. ... The final caution was a multicar incident on the ensuing restart attempt, when Kevin Burdick, Johnny Broking, Ryan Mikkelson and Jeff Provinzino all tangled in turn one, with seven laps remaining. Burdick and Broking both retired, while Provinzino rebounded to 11th and Mikkelson in 12th. Rain fell during the final caution, creating somewhat unknown track conditions going into the race's final restart. ... The 40-lapper lasted 29 minutes, with 16 competitors completing the distance.

On the move: Joel Bennett of Hortonville, Wis., started 24th and finished 10th.
