What won the race: Polesitter Ross Camponovo of Merigold, Miss., regained control from Jade Luzenberg on a lap-two restart and led the remainder of Saturday night's 40-lap Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series feature at Pike County Speedway. Camponovo beat Brandon Carpenter to the checkers by 1.568 seconds for the $3,000 victory and his second career MSCCS triumph, his first since May 18, 2013, at Greenville (Miss.) Speedway.
Key notes: Points leader Brandon Carpenter reclaimed the runner-up spot on a lap-39 restart and narrowly held off Chase Williams by 0.234 for second. ... Jeremy Broadus retired from third on lap 39, drawing the race's fourth and final caution. He was credited with sixth. ... Second-running Mike Palasini Jr. pulled off just before Broadus's trouble. ... Jason Milam slowed from fifth for the third stoppage on lap 35. ... Jade Luzenberg, winner of Friday's $2,500 weekend opener at Hattiesburg (Miss.) Speedway, led the opening lap before giving way to Camponovo and holding second until slowing on the 33rd lap, triggering the second yellow flag. ... Reigning series champ Chad Thrash slowed from fourth and pulled off under green on lap 27. ... The 40-lapper lasted 26 minutes, with five starters running at the finish.
On the move: Thomas Langley of Parish, Ala., started 10th and finished fifth.
