What won the race: Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., inherited the $10,000 victory in Saturday's second National 100 preliminary feature at East Alabama Motor Speedway after apparent winner Mark Whitener was disqualified for being light at the scales in postrace technical inspection. Owens, who initially crossed the line 0.939 of a second behind Whitener in the 35-lap race, was credited with his fifth feature victory of the season.

Quotable: “A win is a win ... the paycheck's real good. But, you know, Mark (Whitener) clearly had the best car there,” Owens said. “You know racing in this rubber can be tricky. It'll take a bunch of extra rubber off your tires. … (it was) just good to be running second tonight.”

Whitener took command from pole-starting Brandon Overton on the 17th circuit and survived a multitude of late-race restarts to pace the remaining distance. Whitener's No. 5 was weighed twice at the scales before being directed back to his pit and away from victory lane; Whitener later reported on social media that the team forgot to top off with fuel before the 35-lap feature. ... Brandon Overton was credited with a runner-up finish a night removed from winning Friday's $5,000 opener. ... EAMS track champ Dalton Cook improved three positions for a third-place result. ... World of Outlaws regular Brent Larson gained nine spots to round out the top five. ... Garrett Smith salvaged an eighth-place run after enduring a flat right-rear tire with eight laps remaining. The 22-year-old fell as deep as 15th after sailing off the banking in turn one while battling Whitener for fourth in the early going. ... Tyler Erb overcame flat tires on lap 29 and 31 to finish 10th. Erb's near spin on the race's opening lap triggered a multi-car pileup to draw the first of six cautions; Mike Benedum was unable to continue. ...
