Mason Zeigler led all 50 laps of the Darryl Hills Memorial at Potomac.
What won the race: Capping his championship on the first year Bernheisel Racing Components Fall Clash, outside front-row starter Mason Zeigler of Chalk Hill, Pa., led all 50 laps at Potomac Speedway for a $10,000 payday. Zeigler took the checkers 0.820 of a second ahead of polesitter Gregg Satterlee in winning the caution-plagued Darryl Hills Memorial. Satterlee got alongside Zeigler in turn four on the 45th lap, but couldn't find a way past.
Quotable: "I hated all those early cautions because that top was starting to get black and that bottom, I felt like Gregg was good and at some point I was going to start taking the bottom on the restart because I felt like if he timed his restart just right, he was probably going to get me. It was getting hairy," Zeigler said, later adding that "I wasn't a huge fan of all the cautions, but we persevered and we came out on top, so I guess that's all that matters."
Key notes: Mason Zeigler won the first and last Fall Clash events in collecting the $10,000 title. ... It was his 10th overall feature win of the season. ... Nine cautions slowed the 50-lapper, the first on the 13th lap when Kyle Hardy slowed with a deflating tire (he had another flat on the 40th lap). ... On the lap-13 restart, another quick yellow appeared for Austin Lathroum's turn-four spin. ... Dale Hollidge got into the frontstretch wall on the 18th lap. ... The ensuing lap-18 restarts also drew quick yellows (Derick Quade broke and then Ray Love spun in turn two). .... On the 23rd lap, Sam Archer stopped on the frontstretch (the race stopped again for a bad restart). ... The ninth and final caution appeared for Michael Lake's turn-two spin. ... The 40-minute feature concluded at 10:38 p.m. ... Mike Ciezobka and Jamie Lathroum scratched. ... The event honored Darryl Hills, of Great Mills, Md., a five-time Potomac champ who won more than 30 features; Hills died Jan. 11, 2024, at age 47.
On the move: Jeremy Pilkerton of Loveville, Md., started 19th and finished seventh.
