Cade Dillard navigates the 4/10-mile oval en route to victory.
What won the race: Cade Dillard of Robeline, La., survived a rash of cautions for a dominant flag-to-flag victory in Friday's 25-lap Deuces Wild Championship opener at Texas Motor Speedway. Dillard, who also led all 20 laps in the night's modified feature, beat Jake Nightingale by 2.728 seconds for the $2,500 payday co-sanctioned by the Nutrien Ag Solutions Revival Super Dirt Series and United Rebel Late Model Series.
Quotable: “I love modified and Late Model racing, so anytime you can do both, it’s fun. It’s kinda hard going back-and-forth sometimes, it’s two completely different animals, but we had two really good cars right there,” Dillard said before later adding, “It’s been a while if I have (swept a four-race weekend), so it’d be cool to do. I enjoy this place and I would like to see more events here in the future.”
Key notes: Dillard notched his third win of the season and first since May 16. ... It's his third career special event at Texas Motor Speedway and his first on the Revival and Rebel tours. ... Dillard led all 61 laps contested on the evening, including fast time honors in both divisions. ... Sixth-starting Jake Nightingale surged to second by lap 12, but never seriously challenged Dillard. ... Jon Mitchell trailed Dillard from laps 3-11 before giving way to Nightingale. ... Kip Hughes gained two spots on a lap-15 restart for a fourth-place finish. ... Kylan Garner slipped to sixth while securing his second straight Revival Series title. ... Morgan Bagley improved 11 positions to place seventh. ... Eli Ross rebounded from a lap-three restart spin to finish ninth; Ross spun while battling Garner for second, collecting Steve Stultz, Tyler Wolff, Brandon Conkwright and Nate Jantz, who were all eliminated. ... The race was slowed by four other cautions, first when Jimmy Vanzandt spun on lap three. ... Seventh-running Terry Phillips retired with nose damage under the lap-three yellow. ... The third stoppage came on lap 15 for Shane Cook's turn-four spin (dislodging the car from the inner guardrail caused a brief delay). ... Damian Patocka and Matt Menzie each had separate one-car incidents on lap-15 restart attempts before retiring. ... The 25-lapper lasted 32 minutes and ended just before 2 a.m.; 13 starters completed the distance. ... Saturday's hot laps have been bumped up one hour earlier to 5:30 p.m.
On the move: Shane Hebert of Lafayette, La., started 20th and finished fifth.
