Jonathan Davenport commanded all 35 laps of Friday's prelim feature.
What won the race: Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., scored a commanding flag-to-flag victory in Friday's second preliminary night of the 19th annual World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, worth $15,000. Davenport led all 35 laps and beat Drake Troutman by 2.026 seconds for his 17th career World of Outlaws Real American Beer Late Model Series victory and his seventh overall World Finals triumph.
Quotable: “It was huge (starting on the pole) for sure, we finally could see how good our car was once we got in clean air,” Davenport said. “Last night, I didn’t think we was great, especially at the start. I chose the wrong line at the beginning of the race and got hung on the outside there and from then, we really didn’t know how good our car was. … (my guys) gave me one hell of a racecar again.”
Key notes: Davenport nabbed his second World of Outlaws victory of the season, his first since Feb. 15's DIRTcar Nationals finale at Florida's Volusia Speedway Park, worth $20,000. ... His seventh World Finals victory moves him into a tie with Jimmy Owens for the most in event history. ... It's his first World Finals triumph since 2022's finale, worth $25,000. ... Owens, who started the race aboard Ricky Thornton Jr.'s Koehler Motorsports entry after engine trouble in his usual No. 20, pulled off on lap seven and was credited 28th as the race's first retiree. ... Recently crowned series Rookie of the Year Drake Troutman trailed Davenport the entire way, but never truly challenged for the lead. ... Brandon Sheppard, one night removed from losing on a heartbreaking last-lap pass, held third for all 35 circuits. ... Tyler Erb surged from sixth-to-fourth over the race's final handful of laps. ... Hudson O'Neal, winner of Thursday's $15,000 opener, prevailed to finish fifth after a race-long battle with Dennis Erb Jr., relegating Erb to sixth. ... Nick Hoffman finished seventh, clinching the $7,500 Coltman Farms Racing Cup, a 19-race miniseries contested throughout the World of Outlaws season. ... Teenager Beckham Malone finished ninth in his series debut. ... Bobby Pierce finished 16th one night after clinching the 2025 series title. ... Austin Smith retired on the 23rd lap, joining Owens as the only starters unable to finish. ... The green-to-checkered feature lasted just 10 minutes with 18 starters completing 35 laps. ... A driver's single best points night will be used to set the lineup for Saturday's dashes and consolations before the 50-lap, $25,000-to-win World Finals finale.
On the move: Tyler Erb of New Waverly, Texas, started 11th and finished fourth.
Winner's sponsors: Davenport’s Double L Motorsports Longhorn Chassis carries sponsorship from Nutrien Ag Solutions, ASC Warranty, Dynagro Seed, Mark Martin Automotive, Mega Plumbing & HVAC, Bobcat of Batesville, Bert Transmissions by Budda, Lucas Oil, Hoosier Racing Tire, VP Racing Fuels, Bilstein Shocks and Midwest Sheet Metal.

Heat race recap

Brandon Sheppard led all eight laps from the pole to win the first heat race by 0.842 of a second over sixth-starting Beckham Malone, while seventh-starting Jordan Koehler grabbed the third and final transfer spot into Friday’s 35-lap preliminary feature. The night’s first caution flew when Ethan Dotson slowed from second on the opening lap after his starter cable came loose; he could not continue. The second yellow flag flew on the third lap when Clay Stuckey slowed from fourth and retired; he was credited with 11th. The third stoppage came on the fifth lap when Braden Jones slowed while trailing heavy smoke. Debris on the ensuing restart drew the race’s fourth caution before Jamison McBride spun from third for the fifth and final slowdown. … Second-starting Hudson O’Neal prevailed after contact with Dale McDowell on the opening start, leading all eight laps to beat Brian Shirley to the checkers by 3.532 seconds. The pole-starting McDowell held on to claim the third and final transfer position into Friday’s $15,000-to-win prelim. Anthony Sanders slowed on the opening lap, triggering the race’s lone caution; he pulled off and was credited 12th. … Second-starting Drake Troutman got the jump on the race’s opening start, leading all eight laps and beating polesitter Tyler Erb by 0.852 of a second at the line to win the third heat. Brandon Overton started and finished third, joining Troutman and Terbo in punching his ticket into the night’s main event. The lone stoppage came on the fourth lap when Chuckie Lepsch slowed and stopped in the infield, near the racing surface; Lepsch required a push back to the pits and could not continue. … Jonathan Davenport inherited control on a lap-seven restart after race-long leader Chris Madden retired with a broken rear end and led the final two laps, winning the fourth heat by 0.943 of a second over fourth-starting Tim McCreadie. John Henderson, who spun just as Madden slowed for the race’s second caution, recovered to complete the podium finishers. The first stoppage came on the sixth lap when fifth-running Ricky Thornton Jr. slowed with a dead battery and required a push back to the pits; he was credited with 11th as the race’s first retiree. Madden’s rear end issues drew the second and final yellow just as G.R. Smith and Henderson spun at the turn-one entrance; Madden and Smith could not continue, crediting them with ninth- and 10th-place finishes. … Dennis Erb Jr. overcame early pressure from Josh Rice and led all eight laps to win the fifth heat by 1.001 seconds over pole-starting Dustin Sorensen. Fourth-starting Daulton Wilson finished third, while Rice slipped to sixth at the checkers after challenging for the lead on the opening lap. … Nick Hoffman led all eight laps from the outside front row to win the sixth and final heat, beating polesitter Jimmy Owens to the line by 0.677 of a second. Austin Smith slipped by Brenden Smith on the fourth lap, claiming the third and final transfer, while Brenden Smith slipped to an eighth-place finish.
